Building a Successful Construction Business: Lessons Learned Along the Way.
Welcome to a New Year and thank you for visiting our construction blog! As the founder and co-owner of our company, I started a small video blog on social media in August 2022 to document my journey as we grew our business, hired employees, and navigated all of the challenges that come with being a small business owner.
While I had worked in real estate, development, and construction management for well over a decade, I obtained my New York GC license in Westchester County in 2021 and quickly realized that there are a lot of small business owners and clients out there who could benefit from my insights and experiences.
To my surprise, by the end of 2022, I had thousands of viewers, listeners, and loyal followers eagerly awaiting my weekly contractor tips and lessons. As we kick off 2023, I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the most popular takeaways from my journey so far.
First and foremost, it's important to thoroughly vet any potential contractors before hiring them. This includes checking references, verifying their insurance and licenses, and getting estimates from multiple contractors to ensure you are getting a fair price.
In addition, having a clear, detailed contract in place is essential. This document should outline the scope of work, payment terms, and any other relevant details to help ensure that both you and the contractor are on the same page and can avoid misunderstandings or disputes.
Effective communication is also key to the success of any construction project. Make sure to stay in touch with your contractor and address any issues or concerns in a timely manner to keep the project on track.
Finally, it's important to remember that no project will ever be 100% perfect. Be flexible and open to changes or suggestions from your contractor, as they are the experts in their field and may have valuable insights or ideas that can improve the final result.
Thank you for following along on our journey so far, and we hope you'll continue to join us as we share more tips, insights, and experiences on our construction blog. If you haven't already, be sure to follow us on all of our social channels to stay up-to-date with the latest from our company and weekly contractor tips!
