Hudson Yards Sustainable Urban Development & Construction
Hudson Yards is a sustainable and forward-thinking neighborhood in Manhattan. With its 28 acres of mixed-use space, including commercial, retail, and residential buildings, this neighborhood is a one-of-a-kind hub of activity. Boasting LEED Gold Certification, Hudson Yards is one of the most environmentally-friendly neighborhoods in the country, with green infrastructure, public transportation links, and a pedestrian-friendly design.
Hudson Yards was a massive project, with developers contributing over $19 billion annually to New York City's GDP. The area was once a series of rail yards, with over 30 active railways for the Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit, and Amtrak. To build the development, engineers had to construct a 10-acre platform to support the structures, which weighs more than 35,000 tons and uses over 25,000 tons of steel.
10 Hudson Yards, an office building in the development, is a prime example of the innovative and sustainable approach taken in Hudson Yards. With Platinum LEED certification (the highest level possible), this skyscraper was completed in 2016 and was the first of 16 buildings in the development. At 895ft tall, with floor-to-ceiling windows and no columns for unobstructed views, 10 Hudson is a true Class A building in New York City. Conceived by the master planners at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, this building is a testament to the level of innovation and sustainability present in the Hudson Yards neighborhood.
