Hudson Yards Sustainable Urban Development & Construction

Hudson Yards is a 28 acre mixed use development with commercial, retail, and residential space. It is the first neighbourhood in Manhattan to receive LEED Gold Certification and with it’s green infrastructure, public transportation linkages, pedestrian friendly community design and overall innovation it is one of the most sustainable, connected and forward thinking neighbourhoods in the country. Hudson Yards was the biggest real deal in US history and it’s site’s developers say it will contribute $19 billion annually to NYC’s GDP.

Before the area was rail yards and still it is! In fact, The Hudson Yards had to be built over 30 active railways for the Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit, and Amtrak. To do this engineers had to devise a 10 acre platform to support the development. This ultra-complex platform (which includes special ventilation, cooling, storm water retention, and plant-friendly “smart soil”) weighs more than 35,000 tons and uses more than 25,000 tons of steel.

10 Hudson Yards is an office building in this redevelopment with Platinum LEED certification, which is the highest you can get. Groundbreaking on the building in 2012 and it was completed in 2016. Even though the first tenants moved in in 2013. The whole development is 16 skyscrapers over all of which 10 Husdon was the first. The large master plan was conceived by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. 10 Hudson is 895ft/272.79 meters tall, is a Class A NYC building, and has floor to ceiling windows and no columns for panoramic views.
