2023 Kitchen Design Trends
We are seeing some exciting trends in kitchen design for 2023! As our lives increasingly revolve around the home and remote work and schooling become more prevalent, the kitchen has become even more central. We're now seeing a trend towards a "flowing" layout that connects the kitchen with other important spaces like the dining, bath, mud, and living rooms. This design approach, which prioritises accessibility and convenience, is not strictly "open" but instead creates a seamless flow throughout the home. Furthermore, there's a renewed interest in making the kitchen a classic and sunlit filled space, harkening back to traditional designs.
Big Windows - Big windows in the kitchen are in! Sliding glass doors opening to outdoor spaces is ideal, however if that is not already in your layout nor in your renovation budget another option is to sacrifice some upper cabinets and install large windows, this option is growing in popularity this year and you’re likely to see it keep going. Another option that is available if you are not willing to sacrifice cabinet space is to open an exterior wall is to open an interior wall to another room and have a pocket door installed to let windows from that room shine in.
Double Up - Buying two of the things the family uses most in the kitchen is what’s in for 2023. Fighting is out and getting along is in! With more family members working from home today, regardless of household structure, the kitchen often sees multiple people working at the same time. It is starting to become more common to not only have two ovens and two sinks but also two dishwashers, two microwaves, two coffeemakers, double the fixtures, and double islands.
Subdued Countertops - With bold bright paint colours being so popular the countertops are taking a back seat. Bold stone and dark granite are out and muted earth tones with honed finishes are in. Butcher blocks islands are all the rage right now as they very much fit that description. They are very functional and warm the space. If you don’t have the budget to replace your quartz countertop no worries it’s still a longstanding favourite that isn't going anywhere any time soon.
No More Shaker Cabinets - White shaker cabinets are finally seeing their day pass. It’s now in style to paint your cabinets shades of green and blue. And as we head into the future we love our clean modern lines but we also love to incorporate our past and repurpose our beloved family heirlooms so we are seeing a great mix of new and old in styling these days and it’s coming together beautifully in the kitchen cabinet options. Cottage style and classic beaded inset are very popular right now as is consulting with a designer and coming up with your own unique design.
Concealed Storage and Appliances - Built-in storage solutions are more popular than ever. Since the pandemic when lockdown was mandatory and we really had to confront the spaces we live in, organisation has come to the forefront of our collective consciousness. Pantries will always be popular but now what is even more popular is to have everything hidden away right in the cabinets and counters. Now it is even more possible to construct pop up and pop out sections of the counter or cabinets to make things very personalised and organised to your space, from charging stations, cutting boards, spice racks, pots/pans/baking sheets, and small appliances, you can have it all organised right at your fingertips.
