2023 Renovation Design Don’ts!
All grey everything! All grey is finally all out. Grey walls, grey cabinets, grey tiles, etc. It’s all over and done. We are leaving greige behind and embracing bold colours. Painting the walls and cabinets happy bright colours is what is hot now. Can’t commit? Paint the walls white and just do pops of colour. White is always a clean timeless choice and then you can trade out bold pops of colour whenever you feel like a change!
Carpeted stairs! Could not be happier to see this trend trashed. Carpet is so hard to keep clean, especially if you have kids and/or pets in the home. Tear out that worn old beige carpet and update those stairs with a lovey stain or a fun paint job. Still stuck on carpet? Replace the full carpet with a runner for a fresher look. Runners are less costly and come in many more design options than standard carpet.
Tan exteriors! The days of realtors suggesting you paint your home a “safe” colour are over. Go ahead and pick that bright colour you’ve been dreaming about but never dared do. If all new paint or siding is breaking the bank or just not ready for a whole house commitment. You can easily update your curb appeal from 2003 to 2023 by simply painting your front door a bold colour.
Over the Top Hardware and Fixtures! Bold colours are hot but in contrast to that simple and sleek hardware and fixtures are what’s being shown to compliment them. Gaudy hardware and bright colours are too much for the eyes. To counter that get some simple accessories to pair them with. No more chandeliers in the bathroom! Minimalist and sleek is the new aesthetic.
Over the Top Window Treatments! Same as gaudy hardware and fixtures are out so are the gaudy old valances and curtains of the 90’s and aughts. Anything that obscures the outdoors is no longer wanted indoors. Using a bold pattern that compliments your room is very now however overpowering heavy curtain fabrics with fringe at the bottom or valances that cover the top part of the window blocking views is out of date.
White appliances! New appliances can be ordered in a variety of colours these days. If you do not want to pay for new appliances, you can paint your old ones or if you’re extra handy even get vintage ones and fix them.
What we’re saying is don’t be weighed by don’ts! There are so many more options available to us now and the rules are out the window so do what makes you happy! And as always consult a professional before taking on any big jobs.
